단순 미래 시제의 기능

단순 미래는 지금 이후의 시간을 진술하고, 사실이나 확실성을 표현합니다. 이 경우 '태도'는 반영되지 않습니다.

단순 미래 용법:

미래 사건 예측:
It will rain tomorrow.
I 또는 We와 같이, 즉흥적인 결정 표현시:
I'll pay for the tickets by credit card.
의지 표현: I'll do the washing-up.
He'll carry your bag for you.
부정 형태로 주저함 표현:
The baby won't eat his soup.
I won't leave until I've seen the manager!
I와 함께, "shall"을 사용하는 의문문 형태에서, 제의를 표현:
Shall I open the window?
we와 함께, "shall"을 사용하는 의문문 형태에서, 제안을 표현:
Shall we go to the cinema tonight?
I와 함께, "shall"을 사용하는 의문문 형태에서, 조언이나 지침을 요청시:
What shall I tell the boss about this money?
you와 함께, 명령을 할 때:
You will do exactly as I say.
you와 함께, 의문문 형태에서, 초대를 할 때:
Will you come to the dance with me?
Will you marry me?

주의:현대 영어에서는 will이 shall보다 선호됩니다. Shall은 주로 I와 we와 같이 제의나 제안을 할 때, 또는 조언을 요청할 때 사용됩니다 (위의 예들 참조). 기타 인칭들의 경우 (you, he, she, they), shall은 오직 문학적이나 시적 상황에서만 사용됩니다. 예를 들면, "With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, She shall have music wherever she goes."
