정도 부사

정도 부사는 동작, 형용사 또는 또 다른 부사의 강도나 정도를 표현합니다. 정도 부사는 보통 자신이 수식하는 형용사, 부사 또는 동사 앞에 옵니다. 몇몇의 예외들이 아래와 같이 있습니다.

Enough는 부사와 한정사 모두로서 사용될 수 있습니다.

부사로서 Enough

'필요한 정도로'를 의미하는 부사로서 Enough는 다른 부사들의 경우처럼 자신이 수식하는 형용사나 부사 앞이 아닌, 뒤에 옵니다. 이것은 긍정문과 부정문 모두에서 사용될 수 있습니다.

Enough는 자주 "to" + 부정사 앞에 올 수 있습니다.

Enough는 또한 "for someone" 또는 "for something" 앞에 올 수 있습니다.

한정사로서 Enough

'필요한 만큼 많이'를 의미하는 한정사로서 Enough는 자신이 수식하는 명사 앞에 옵니다. 이것은 복수 가산 명사와 불가산 명사와 같이 사용됩니다.

"too"의 사용

"very"의 사용

Very는 부사나 형용사 앞에 와서 그것을 더 강력하게 만들어 줍니다.

만약 형용사나 부사의 부정 형태를 만들고 싶다면, 부사에 "not"을 붙이거나, 반대 의미를 가지는 형용사나 부사를 사용하거나, 또는 원래 형용사나 부사와 같이 "not very"를 사용할 수 있습니다. 구절의 의미는 동일하지 않습니다. 보통 "not very"를 사용하는 절은 덜 직접적이며, 그러므로 다른 구절들 보다 좀 더 정중합니다.

"too"와 "very"의 의미 차이는 많이 납니다. "Very"는 사실을 표현하고, "too"는 문제가 있음을 암시합니다.

"very"처럼 사용되는 다른 부사들

부정 부사 사용으로 인한 어순 도치

보통 주어는 동사 앞에 오지만, 몇몇 부정 부사는 구절 앞에 오면서 어순 도치를 이끌어 낼 수 있습니다. 어순이 바뀌게 되고 동사는 주어 앞에 오게 됩니다. 이 도치는 오직 말하기가 아닌 쓰기에만 사용됩니다.
