진행형 부정사는 부정사가 뒤에 오는 동사나 조동사의 뒤에서 진행중인 행동을 표현하기 위해서 사용됩니다. 진행형 부정사의 구조는 다음과 같습니다:
to be + 현재 분사
현재 부정사와 마찮가지로, to가 생략된 진행형 부정사의 원형 형태가 사용되어야 하는 경우도 있습니다. 이것은 대부분의 조동사들 뒤에서 발생하고, 원형 부정사가 사용되는 곳들에서 볼 수 있습니다.
